Great family kitchen and home style dining experience. Super friendly staff and just good down home cookin'. Great prices too.
The food is very flavorful! They provided the best customer service! This restaurant made me feel right at home it gives a country old school dinner atmosphere. The prices are almost too good to be true! This place is a hidden gem..
This hidden jewel was a great place to eat. I ordered the special, Turkey & Dressing with yams and collards and it was delicious. Down home country cooking at it's best. I enjoyed every bite. This was my first visit of many to come.
I was getting an oil change and a brake job at the Subaru dealership and needed to walk somewhere for breakfast on MLK day. Helen's was open and close so I decided to check them out. Waitresses were friendly and you can seat yourself (good if you're looking to space out due to COVID precautions). The menu was standard American diner fare and the prices were pretty low - $5.50 for a club sandwhich with a generous portion of fries, a biscuit for 80 cents. The only thing that warranted the removal of a star was the buiscuit - they brought out the flattest biscuit I have ever seen. I had to double check the calendar to make sure that it wasn't Passover and that I hadn't gotten some unleavened bread. I expected something else in the south. It tasted OK but be forewarned! I paid $3.50 for the soup of the day, a big bowl of hearty vegetable soup with beef. They serve Pepsi products and it is by the can (no free refills). I brought in my own Coke Zero (I came prepared for the dealership with my own stash) and rather then tell me that they didn't allow outside food or drink, the waitress asked me if I'd like a glass for for my Coke Zero. That was unexpected and much appreciated, I've forgiven them the Passover biscuit and added a bonus star. 4.5 / 5, give them a shot.
This place has been in business for over 42 years - and for a good reason. They truly encompass the personality of the NC coast. Southern hospitality, delicious food, great prices, and friendly faces. Truly wonderful.
When people say there isnt anything good in Jacksonville, they’re wrong! Helens kitchen is one of the best mom and pop places in town with great prices and amazing food. They have the best biscuits and gravy! The customer service is true southern hospitality, if you haven’t visited. What are you waiting for?!
Loved this place! Friendly, attentive, budget friendly, 'home-style' cooking. I can highly recommend.
Stopped in today and I had the breakfast sampler and my son had the bacon cheeseburger. My son, who is 13 liked the taste of his burger but was still hungry afterwards. I had so much food on the breakfast sampler I was able to get him full. I loved the breakfast sampler and we can’t wait to come back and try something else.
